So, here we are at N for NOTICING.
When we cultivate our qi, we develop a greater mind BODY awareness. The more often we practice the Three Treasures or Mindful Adjustments of posture, breath and mind focus, the more easily and quickly we can “drop in” to that place of calm, relaxation and restoration of our qi. We become aware of our qi flow, our heartbeat our breathing, our places of tension.
When we cultivate our qi, we develop a greater mind BEAUTY awareness. We are more aware of beautiful sights, sounds, actions in the world, which leads to increased incidences of expressions of wonder and joy. We understand our interconnectedness. A sense of loving kindness, generosity and peace emerges, which takes us back to wanting to cultivate our qi even more.
When we cultivate our qi, we develop a greater mind BOUNTY awareness. We recognize how fulfilled we are by noticing our body or the expressions of beauty of the world. We see life through the lens of gratitude. Through our expression of gratitude, we appreciate, honor, respect and love all that surrounds us.
When we cultivate our qi, we develop a greater awareness of who are are as a human being. In discovering our true nature by listening intentionally and attentively to our body, heart and spirit, we uncover our highest self, our inner radiance, the one that is the collection of all the individual ones. An awareness of the interconnectedness of all that is, was and will be presents itself, and we aspire and desire to respond and act more from the perspective of “we” than the perspective of “I”.
I am a firm believer in taking the lessons I learned about myself in terms of body, heart and head space during my Tai Chi, Qigong or yoga practice with me when I step off the mat or away from my practice. It may simply be noticing my breath, or an awareness of my qi or a reminder to seek beauty, but I set that intention to notice. Our intention invites attention which in turn decreases tension.
(To be continued. In the meantime, enjoy these photos and this practice which will help you discover qi.)
PRACTICE: Cutting The Path to Clarity· Equally distribute your weight on the feet; arms are crossed in front of the body about chest height. Palms face the body.
· In this example, the right hand is in front of the left. The closest hand to the heart (the left) pulls toward the back and the outside hand (the right) pushes forward.
· As the torso turns following the left hand, your arms are naturally carried in the appropriate directions with little effort. The right hand pushing forward leads with the pinky finger, like a “knife edge” cutting the air. The head turns to the side naturally. Reach wide, expansively.
· With only the slightest stop, the hands return to the qi ball and the left hand moves to the front, while the right hand moves to the back.
· As both hands pass in front of your body about heart level, your center of gravity is centered between right and left feet.
· Form a Qi Ball with the palms toward each other about shoulder/heart level.
· Repeat , alternating left and right as desired. End the sequence with a Qi ball in front of the body about heart level, the center of gravity is centered between right and left feet.
